Meredith’s Miracles to celebrate 20 years on Oct. 7

Published 5:02 pm Wednesday, September 24, 2025

On October 7, Meredith’s Miracles will celebrate 20 years of serving families across South Alabama. Since its founding, the nonprofit has provided vital assistance to families whose children require specialized medical care far from home. This milestone comes at a time when the need for support is greater than ever, prompting the organization to call on the community for additional donations to sustain its mission.

Meredith’s Miracles is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing travel assistance to families with critically ill children, ensuring they have access to the best possible medical care regardless of financial circumstances. Since its founding, Meredith’s Miracles has helped families throughout 26 counties of Alabama navigate the challenges of pediatric illness by covering essential travel expenses, allowing parents to focus on what matters most—their child’s health and well-being.

Each year, families across Alabama face the heartbreaking reality that their child or infant requires specialized medical treatment. In many cases, this care is only available at facilities such as Children’s Hospital in Birmingham or USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital in

Mobile. Beyond the emotional toll, families must also bear the financial strain of covering meals, transportation, and lodging while away from home. For those navigating conditions such as cancer or sickle cell disease, these trips are frequent. Families with infants in neonatal intensive care units often endure months of back-and-forth travel, with expenses mounting quickly.

For the past two decades, Meredith’s Miracles has been a vital source of support for families in 26 counties across South Alabama. By covering non-medical expenses,

Meredith’s Miracles helps alleviate some of the financial stress tied to medical travel, allowing families to focus on their child’s health.

The need for this assistance continues to rise. In 2024 alone, Meredith’s Miracles provided

$270,321 in support for 1,402 trips, assisting 416 families. As of August 31, 2025, the organization has already distributed $184,150 to cover 955 trips, serving 335 families, 171 of whom are new. Currently, the nonprofit is averaging 119 trips per month at a cost of more than $23,000 monthly. Looking ahead, Meredith’s Miracles projects a need of more than $92,000 to sustain families through the final four months of the year.

While the organization raises funds through events and grants throughout the year, the growing demand requires additional financial support.

“As we approach the end of the year, we invite our community to reflect on the blessings in their lives and consider supporting Meredith’s Miracles,” said Executive Director, Kiley

Spears. “Your generosity allows us to continue serving families during their most challenging times. Together, we can transform lives—your generosity creates miracles.”
