Wasim Akram urges urgent medical care for Imran Khan

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and cricket icon Imran Khan is scheduled to receive specialized medical treatment for a serious eye condition. Reports indicate that Khan, 73, who captained Pakistan to the 1992 Cricket World Cup victory, has lost roughly 85% of the vision in his right eye while in prison.

His son, Kasim Khan, made the condition public on social media, revealing that only 15% of his father’s eyesight remains. The news prompted an outpouring of concern from the cricketing community, political circles, and the general public.

Several former national cricketers expressed deep concern over Khan’s health. Wasim Akram described the situation as “heartbreaking” and urged the authorities to ensure Khan receives the best possible care. Waqar Younis emphasized setting aside politics, calling Khan a national hero who needs urgent attention.

Shoaib Akhtar also voiced hope that Khan would receive proper treatment even while in prison. Shahid Afridi highlighted that access to medical care is a fundamental human right. Ramiz Raja, recalling his role in Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup win, called Khan’s condition “an emotional meltdown” and appealed for humanity to prevail.

In an official update, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that Khan will be treated at a specialized eye facility. Leading ophthalmologists will conduct a detailed examination as part of his ongoing treatment. A comprehensive medical report will also be submitted to the Supreme Court. Tarar urged the public to avoid speculation or using Khan’s health for political gain.

Khan’s health concerns have drawn widespread attention. Supporters and opposition figures alike have demanded timely, professional care. His case has also sparked debate about the rights of prisoners to adequate medical treatment.
