In a bid to ensure that all citizens get access to quality healthcare facilities within a five-km radius of residence and to ensure that more health schemes and services of the health department are available online, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed to set up a Public Health Infrastructure Corporation.
A review meeting of the Public Health Department presided over by the CM was held at Vidhan Bhavan. During the meeting, Fadnavis emphasised better coordination between the public health and medical education departments. He suggested making improvements wherever necessary and ensure that most treatments are available at Primary Health Centres (PHCs). Thirteen essential healthcare services should be provided at PHCs on the lines of Tamil Nadu, directed the CM. Public Health Department Secretary Dr Nipun Vinayak and Secretary Virendra Singh presented a report on the health system of Tamil Nadu after their study visit.
The state government is striving to ensure that healthcare services remain accessible and affordable for citizens. All necessary studies should be conducted, and comprehensive information should be submitted promptly for effective implementation, the CM said.
The Chief Minister asked authorities to increase the number of expert doctors, introduce new facilities in the health department, modernise district and sub-district hospitals, and accelerate the establishment of ‘Ayushman Health Temples’ in rural areas.
He further stated that supply chain improvements for medicines and medical equipment management should be prioritised. The use of digital technology in healthcare services should be expanded. The number of government and private hospitals under Ayushman Bharat and state insurance schemes should be increased. Strict measures should be taken to control medical treatment costs.
The CM has also directed that special healthcare centres, mobile health units, and telemedicine services should be established in tribal and remote areas. Coordination with local administration is essential to expand healthcare services effectively. Private hospitals should strictly comply with regulations, and public awareness campaigns should be conducted for health education. A dedicated system for health data management should be established.
