York County veterans will have more access to specialized medical care as the York VA Clinic embarks on a $2.8 million expansion project at its Springettsbury Township facility.

Douglas Etter, a Department of Veterans Affairs spokesman, said the clinic — which is overseen by the Lebanon VA Medical Center — has gradually expanded since it was first opened in 2001.

“As other tenants moved out, we took over little by little,” Etter said, “so we can expand the services we offer our veterans in York.”

In July, the VA acquired the last section of the building at 2251 Eastern Boulevard with eye toward expanding various medical offerings. Construction work began there in December, Etter said.

According to Etter, the $2.8 million project is funded by appropriated funds through Congress.

Once completed, Etter said the facility will be able to begin offering veterans X-ray imaging, audiology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, acupuncture, cardiology, massage therapy, general surgery and wound care, urology, chiropractic care and pain management. Etter noted that some services could change as the project moves forward, but the goal remains the same: to give veterans better access to the care they need closer to home.

“It reduces drive times veterans in the county who may have to travel in order to receive these same services at the main campus of the VA Lebanon Healthcare System now,” he said.

The York VA Community Clinic served 8,332 veterans last year. The Lebanon campus, where those veterans must travel for some specialized care, is about an hour’s drive northeast of York.

Etter expected the expansion in York County to be complete by the end of this summer.

A full list of current services offered at the York Clinic is available at va.gov/lebanon-health-care/locations/york-va-clinic. Veterans who are not enrolled in VA healthcare can do so by contacting the enrollment department at 717-228-6000.
