The 12 de Octubre University Hospital, belonging to the public health network of the Community of Madrid, has received the 2023 National Health Informatics Award for the most relevant contribution presented in the activities of the Spanish Society of Health Informatics (SEIS). ) during the last 12 months, recognizing a great development of engineering and data science in the hospital that generates a great opportunity for the professional development of young researchers, since they can be incorporated into multidisciplinary groups made up of clinical professionals and engineers to improve patient care, teaching and research with the constant implementation and development of new information and communication technologies (ICT) in the healthcare field. In 2021, it also received the National Health Informatics Award for the Public or Private Entity that has stood out in digital transformation projects in the healthcare field.
The SEIS has thus once again distinguished the October 12 Hospital for being a reference in digital transformation and innovation in health, as demonstrated by its participation in prominent national and international projects, as well as the development and effective use of ICT to improve the quality and safety of clinical practice as one of the main drivers of your transformation strategy. This recognition represents an additional stimulus to face the new challenges that will arise with the start of activity of the New Hospitalization Building, since it incorporates cutting-edge technological equipment that will offer, among others, the modernization of surgical procedures and interventions, improvements in diagnoses and treatments and improvements in the prevention and monitoring of patients with chronic diseases.
Hospital 12 de Octubre has a history of more than 10 years in the digitalization of healthcare. In this period it has consolidated and updated the Electronic Medical Record, implementing advanced solutions for the analysis of clinical data to facilitate healthcare work, improve patient safety and enhance teaching and research. Along these lines, the InfoBANCO project of the Community of Madrid, co-financed by the European Union, and whose first implementation was carried out at the 12 de Octubre University Hospital in collaboration with Primary Care, has represented an international milestone by managing to implement for the first time a standardized health data repository, capable of combining data generated in clinical, research and administrative systems with great utility for care improvement and innovation, value-based healthcare (VBHC), biomedical research and others advanced uses of health data.
